TeXTools — Terms of Use
Last updated: June 15, 2026
These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of TeXTools, a collaborative LaTeX authoring and document-compilation service (the "Service"). By creating an account or otherwise using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not create an account or use the Service.
1. The Service
TeXTools lets you and your collaborators write, edit, organize, and compile LaTeX documents and related project files in real time. Features, templates, and compilation behavior may change over time as the Service evolves.
2. Your Account
You are responsible for the information you provide when registering and for keeping your login credentials confidential. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us promptly if you believe your account has been accessed without your authorization. You must be legally able to enter into these Terms to use the Service.
3. Your Content
You retain all ownership rights to the documents, source files, diagrams, and other materials you create, upload, or compile using the Service ("Your Content"). We claim no ownership of Your Content. You grant us only the limited technical permissions necessary to store, process, compile, and display Your Content so that the Service can function and so that collaborators you have invited can access shared projects.
You are solely responsible for Your Content and for ensuring that you have the rights necessary to use it with the Service.
4. Privacy and Confidentiality of Project Data
We treat your project data as confidential. Specifically:
- We do not share your project data with any third-party services. Your documents, source files, and other project content are not sold, rented, or disclosed to third parties, except as strictly required to operate the core Service for you (for example, storing your data on infrastructure we control) or where we are legally compelled to do so by valid legal process.
- We do not use any user data for machine-learning or AI model training. Your Content is never used to train, fine-tune, or otherwise develop machine-learning or artificial-intelligence models, whether ours or anyone else's.
- Project data is shared only with the collaborators you yourself invite to a given project, according to the access you grant them.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use the Service to:
- violate any applicable law or infringe the rights of others;
- upload or distribute malware, or attempt to disrupt, overload, or gain unauthorized access to the Service or its infrastructure;
- access, copy, or interfere with other users' projects without their authorization; or
- misuse the compilation system to run workloads unrelated to legitimate document preparation.
6. Service Provided "As Is"
The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free of bugs, or that any data will be preserved without loss.
7. Data Loss and Limitation of Liability
We are not responsible or liable for any loss of, corruption of, or inability to access your data resulting from your use of the Service, including any data loss caused by bugs, defects, errors, outages, maintenance, or failures of the Service.
You are responsible for maintaining your own independent backups of any data that is important to you. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event will we be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, revenue, or goodwill, arising out of or relating to your use of (or inability to use) the Service, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
8. Suspension and Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate access to the Service if you violate these Terms or if necessary to protect the Service or its users. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination — including ownership, confidentiality, disclaimers, and limitations of liability — will survive.
9. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
10. Contact
If you have questions about these Terms, please contact the Service administrator.
